When creating a Kali VM with VM Ware Fusion I have consistently found that across distributions there is a screen display issue (when using a macbook pro at least). Configuration can be a pain and there is not much information on this online. There is a real easy way to fix this common issue.
1. Open up terminal in your kali vm.
2. enter the following:
service open-vm-tools restart
